Intelligent Design?

Rev. Richard Abel

Joseph Goebbels, Adolph Hitler's minister of propaganda once said, "If you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the truth."  Goebbels may have been altogether evil, but he wasn’t altogether stupid.  It is absolutely amazing just how many people accept as fact things which are absolute lies simply because they have heard them declared to be truth over and over again.

Ask most Americans if the United States Constitution contains the words “Separation of Church and State”.  In reality it does not, but because the media has spun this fable so many times, most people believe it to be true.

The news media has a great influence in the political arena.  All the media moguls have to do is figure out what they want John Q. Public to believe.  After that, they simply proceed to skew the facts so as to support those beliefs and report them as truth over and over again.  Pretty soon folks are convinced that what they have heard is surely the truth simply because they have heard it told that way so many times.

Darwin’s “Theory of Evolution” has now become “Scientific Fact” in our public schools.  Anyone who has an ounce of sense (or Physics 101) surely knows that by natural means something cannot come from nothing.  Where did the first “something” come from?  That is the question!

Watch a nature program on Public Broadcasting (PBS) and it is always a given that “this” evolved from “that” over billions and billions of years.  And it’s all called “Science”. Our society has been fed the evolutionary lie for so many generations now that it has become the truth.

There is now a great push by some to teach “Creationism” in the public schools as a counter theory to evolution.  This has produced a real battle with the secularists in most cases.  Consider that battle for a moment in the light of the following.

It shall be unlawful for any teacher in any of the universities, normals, and all other public schools of the State which are supported in whole or in part by the public school funds of the State, to teach any theory that denies the story of the divine creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals. March 21, 1925.

Repealed, May 17, 1967

One thing is for sure; the secularists of today are not going to buy into the words “Creation”, “Creator” or “God”.  So those seeking to add the teaching of “Creationism” to the public school curriculum had to come up with a less offensive term for it.  Hence we have the term, “Intelligent Design”.  I suppose I should be happy at any inroad that is made into darkness of today’s evolutionary curriculum, but the term “Intelligent Design” simply misses the mark.  For there to be intelligent design, there must be an intelligent designer, and we certainly cannot use the “G--” word in our schools (Don’t forget, the U.S. Constitution provides for a separation of church and state and that would be teaching “Religion” in our public schools!).

I suppose I would consider myself reasonably intelligent.  And I suppose I could sit down with paper and pencil and draw or design some sort of fictitious animal that does not exist.  I guess that would make me an “intelligent designer”!  But could I actually create such a thing?  The answer is obvious.

If it is unconstitutional to teach that the actual “Creator” is God Almighty, then who are the school children supposed to assume the “intelligent designer” was?

Excuse me, but contrary to popular belief, I don’t believe that the public school is the biggest part of the problem.  Now, I am not defending the secular teachings of our country’s public schools, I just believe that the problem runs deeper than that.

Children need to be taught biblical truth from square one by their parents.  The truth is this, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  The root of the problem (from my perspective anyway) is more in the home than in the school.  Why must an alternative to evolution be taught in the school?  If parents would do their job and teach the “alternate ‘theory’ of creation” to their children at home, they would not have to be taught it in school.

Furthermore, the Scriptures declare that “Creation” is being taught to our children and us on a daily basis.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.  Psalm 19:1-4a

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:  Romans 1:19, 20

Although the Gentiles had no written revelation, yet what may be known of God is every where manifest among them, God having made a clear discovery of himself to them. For his being and perfections, invisible to our bodily eyes, have been, ever since the creation of the world, evidently to be seen, if attentively considered, in the visible beauty, order, and operations observable in the constitution and parts of the universe; especially his eternal power and universal dominion and providence: so that they cannot plead ignorance in excuse of their idolatry and wickedness.[2]

According to the Bible, there is not one single living soul who is not accountable to God for recognizing Him as the Great Creator of all that is in heaven and earth?  The very creation itself teaches man that it was the handiwork of the Great Creator.  Therefore, the Bible declares that no one has an acceptable excuse for receiving evolution as truth and rejecting creationism as a fallacy.  To reject the Biblical account of creation is to reject both God and His infallible Word.

Do I believe that it would be good if “Biblical Creation” were taught in our public schools?  My answer is, “Yes”.  Nevertheless, no man, woman or child will ever stand before his or her Creator and Judge and get off the hook because he or she claims that they were never taught creationism in the public school.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans 1:20 [emphasis added]
